Good Monday Morning everyone!! I hope you are all awake and "bright-eyed and bushy tailed", as Mommie says in the mornings sometimes. Did everyone remember to change their clocks this weekend? We did, and I am sure sleepy now! It's hard to lose an hour of sleep! But I'm awake now, so I want to tell you all about the fun stuff I did this weekend!
Let's start out with a funny joke.
Mommie said, "You want to hear a corny joke?"
and I said, "I'm all ears!"
Ha Ha Ha Ha!!
As you can see, I had my very first corn on the cob! I even got to help "shuck" the corn before we cooked it. That was fun! You gotta pull all that green stuff off the outside, "the corn shuck", Mommie said. And then you have to get all the little long strands of "silk" off of the ear of corn. I asked Mommie if that is what they make silk dresses out of, and she said no...that comes from silk worms.
I said, "Ewwwwww", I don't think I want any silk dresses!" Mommie said not to worry about it, because most likely I won't have any silk dresses, because she doesn't have any either.
The next part was Mommie put all those ears of corn into a big kettle of boiling water, and they boiled for about 8 minutes. Then we took them out with long tongs, and looky at these pictures! Mommie has these cute little dishes that are shaped like an ear of corn, and you put your pat of butter in there,
and then you put those tiny little ear of corn things on the ends of the corn cob...they have sharp little prongs that stick into the cob to hold it so you don't burn your fingers when you hold the ear of corn to butter it and eat it!
Mommie keeps these little corn holder thingies in a cup with the beautiful Indian Maiden "Mia" on the front. Mommie said this cup is very special, because that pretty lady is no longer on the boxes of "Land O' Lakes Butter"...Mommie said she told the story about that last year HERE in case you want to read about it again.
Mommie said I kind of look like "Mia" with my long braids. I hope I do. She's very pretty!!
Anyway, back to the corn: THEN comes the BEST part! You EAT the corn right off the cob!!! It takes lots of strong teeth to bite into the kernels of corn and pull them off the cob, but it was SO sweet and buttery and delicious! I hope we have more sweet corn on the cob again soon!
And now, are you ready for another joke? The Popsickle has a little "quiz" joke on the stick.
This one says:
"Why wasn't the computer hungry? It just had a byte."
Mommie had to explain that to me. She said computers use something called "bytes" to measure their power or speed or storage capacity or something like that. She said we'd have to ask a computer techy person to fully understand that part, but the joke was still funny...well, maybe it was a "corny joke" too! LOL.
And look what it said on the back of the package:
This package is for EASTER!!!
And looky what was inside the package:
This big cute Easter Bunny Rabbit, with a huge carrot! He is so cute!
I was trying to hide behind the bunny rabbit! Can you see me?
I was SO excited!! Mommie said that yes, Easter is coming very soon, and we are going to start decorating for Easter right after St. Patrick's Day is over this Wednesday...but first we don't want to forget to wear green on that day...don't forget...or you'll get pinched!
Easter is VERY SPECIAL, and Mommie said we will talk more about that later, because it is the
MOST IMPORTANT DAY of the year!!! And she said it's not just about the Easter Bunny...like my Auntie Debbi said on the package above:
"He rose from the grave!" I asked Mommie WHO rose from the grave? And she said JESUS rose from the grave and conquered death so we can all live forever in heaven with Him!!
But she said we will tell more about that later.
Here's another FIRST:
This is an "Amaryllis" bud popping up out of the ground.
Mommie said that's kind of a part of Easter too...new life springing up from death...
And HERE's ANOTHER one!!!
and ANOTHER ONE!
and ANOTHER ONE!!
Mommie planted these Amaryllis bulbs last year in the ground, and they didn't do anything all year long, and NOW, right before EASTER, they are popping up and growing and maybe they will bloom for Easter!
Mommie says this is all a part of the "Easter Story" that we are learning about. Listen to what Jesus told His special friends (Disciples) who followed Him a few days before He died on the cross:
John 12:23-26
"23 But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. 25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor."
I can't wait to hear more about the Easter Story.
But right now I am enjoying smelling this pretty little rose that bloomed in the yard...the first one of the year! It smells so sweet!
Well, That's my weekend full of "firsts!" I hope you enjoyed it with me, and maybe you can tell some of your firsts!
Bye Bye for now...It's time for breakfast!
Love,
Lily Grace

What an exciting time to be alive! It's been years and years since I enjoyed corn on the cob, and yours looks delicious! Matter of fact, I think I've some of those same cob holders! Mom's coffee cup is definitely to be treasured -- a sweet memory of times when folks weren't so edgy-acting and easily offended. Your new Easter bunny and carrot are positively fetching! Love it, and I love how you and momma are making memories every day, reminding us Life is a gift. 💜
ReplyDeleteThank you, Miss Myra! It is an exciting time to be alive, and I am SO happy that I can enjoy life right here and share it with you!! Oh, Miss Myra, you must get some corn on the cob as soon as it is ready! It is SO good and sweet! This came from somewhere way down south in Florida, and it was really fresh and good. We got it at the same little flea market where we got the strawberries last week. And yes, I am happy Mommie has that cup with the beautiful Indian Maiden Mia on it. She is very pretty and I don't see why anyone should be offended by her. She is so pretty and sweet. I wish I had a pretty outfit like hers. And yes, we are trying to make "memories" every day", because you are right, "Life is a gift", and not everyone gets to enjoy it for a long time, so we should make every day count. I hope you have a wonderful week. Thank you for visiting me. You always make me feel so happy! Bye Bye, Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo
DeleteSo many wonderful firsts you've shared here with us today, Miss Lily Grace! Like you, I love corn on the cob, and we also have those nifty, pronged holders to keep our fingers safe. There is nothing like a refreshing popsicle on a hot day, too. And with Easter coming, the new life budding all around us is the perfect reminder of the new life offered to us by Jesus. You will love the Easter story when Mommie shares it all with you, little one.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, and keep those adventures coming!
Thank you Miss Martha Jane! I am glad you enjoyed this visit to all my "firsts". I just remembered, I could be having another popsicle today! I am going to ask Mommie if I can have one. They sure were good. ANd yes, I am loving hearing about Easter as Mommie shares a little at a time. She said right now we are in a time called "Lent", and we are preparing our hearts for the Easter story by learning more about Jesus and the things He did before Easter. He sure did a lot of wonderful things, didn't He? I'm so glad to know Jesus loves me!! That makes me very happy. I hope you are having a wonderful week. Love, Lily Grace
DeleteLily Grace: We love corn on the cob. However, it sometimes doesn't like us. When it is on good terms with us, we have it about every night through the summer. We had those corn holders break on us. So, we don't use them. Ask your mommie what those corn cob dishes are called. I might surprise my hubby and get some. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteHello Miss Quiet Spirit: Mommie said she understood what you meant about corn on the cob sometimes not liking you. She sometimes has the same "issue". And she said those corn holder have broken sometimes too, but only because they were old. As far as the dishes go, she said all she knows is they are corn on the cob dishes...she said to look online for ceramic corn on the cob dishes. There are a lot of choices. She has had hers a long time and they were a gift, and they are the Pfaltzgraff brand. She said the ceramic kind are better than plastic ones. She said she likes them because you can put the pat of butter in the dish, and then roll the cob in the butter in the dish and not on the stick of butter itself, which they used to always do when she was growing up. I hope you can find some you like and surprise your hubby. That would be a nice gift since you like corn on the cob a lot when it likes you. :) Love, Lily Grace
DeleteLily Grace: I found some online. I am thinking about ordering them for Father's Day.
DeleteOh Goodie! I know your hubby will appreciate them, especially with some fresh sweet corn in them!! yay!
DeleteLily Grace: Tell your mommie that I ordered a set of them. They came Saturday. Now I can't wait until we have locally grown corn on the cob. Some people of my parent's generation call corn on the cob roasting ears. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
DeleteOh Miss Quiet Spirit! I am so happy you found the corn holder dishes, and I hope you will have lots of good "roasting ears" to enjoy all summer long! Yay!! Love, Lily Grace
DeleteI love ALL of the pictures and am SO hungry for corn-on-the-cob now!! Yummy!! Lily Grace, you are such a lucky girl to have so much fun and to experience so many firsts!! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Miss Terri! That corn sure was yummy!! Mommie bought it at a flea market where they had fresh vegetables. We hope to go back again this weekend and get some more if they have it! They had those good strawberries too!!
