Hello my special Blogland Friends! I was SO happy to wake up this morning and see so many pretty new decorations in our house!! I asked Mommie what it could all mean? She said we are celebrating the season of Autumn, or "Fall", when the air starts getting cooler and the leaves turn pretty colors begin to "fall" from the trees outside! She said we will be watching for those changes when we take our walks in the coming days and weeks, because here in Florida, where we live, it takes a bit longer to really feel and look like Autumn. We don't have as many pretty trees that get colored leaves like they do up north, and the weather tends to stay pretty warm until later next month.
But Mommie said we don't have to wait for the leaves to change and the air to get cooler outside to get ready for autumn inside! And so, when I must have been sleeping, Mommie asked my big brother Scotty to bring in the boxes of fall decorations from the shed so she could start decorating. I was so excited to see all these pretty things! You see, I wasn't living here last year when autumn came here, so I never saw any of this before! It really is quite exciting!
I asked Mommie what all those things meant on that sign:
"Hay Rides, Apple Picking, Bonfires, Raking Leaves, Corn Maze, and Pumpkin Patch".
She said those are kinds of fun things that people love to do during the fall season. Sadly, we don't have any apple orchards here in Florida, so we can't do that. But if we look hard enough, we might be able to find some of the other places to do those things. We can make a bonfire right here in our own back yard too. And we will have some leaves to rake eventually!
Mommie said that autumn is also the season when we have Thanksgiving, and we will have a big gathering of family and friends to celebrate and eat turkey and give thanks to God for all our many blessings. Of course, we give thanks to God everyday for all our blessings. We don't have to wait for Thanksgiving to do that! But Thanksgiving is very very special. I can't wait to eat my first Thanksgiving dinner with all our family!
Mommie said most all we want to be "grateful" for all that God has done for us.
I noticed something else. This pretty teacup as pretty purple flowers on it, and inside the cup it says "September".
Mommie really likes that cup because September is her birth month! She said later this month we will celebrate her birthday! Oh goodie! I can't wait!!! I love birthday parties...as you will see in a few minutes...
But first, we had to visit the "Scarecrow Crossing". I asked Mommie, "what's a scarecrow?" And she said it was a funny man made of straw and old clothes on a post in the garden to scare away the crows from the garden! She said the crows would think it was a real person standing there, so they wouldn't want to come near that garden.
I think he's cute, don't you? He wouldn't scare me! I would just like to make friends with him!
I found a funny owl! Mommie said this owl is really like a little candle, to add some light to our darker nights in the fall. The sun goes down earlier in the autumn, so Mommie likes to burn candles and lanterns and stuff to make pretty lights. Maybe we will have to take some more pictures later when the candles are lit.
And I jumped when I saw this thing! What is this, Mommie? She said this is called a "Jack-o-Lantern", and even though this pumpkin is made out of ceramic, usually in the fall Mommie likes to get a real pumpkin and take all the seeds and stuff out of the inside, and cut a funny face in it like this, and put a candle inside and put it outside on a special day called "Halloween". Mommie said we will talk more about that later, but that Halloween comes in October, and it is also lots of fun. She said some people try to make it really scary, but we just like to have fun on Halloween. But she said we'll talk about that more next month!
But NOW to the SPECIAL PARTY! Last night we celebrated my big brother Benton's 50th birthday!! Can you imagine that????
He must be OLD!
Oops, when I said that, he did this to me! Mommie said that wasn't nice. Even my sweet big sister "Auntie Rose" didn't think that was nice, can you tell?
Anyway, we had a really special meal of lasagne and salad and garlic toast and the birthday cake for dessert! Wow! I was sure stuffed after that meal!
Here's the rest of the family enjoying that dinner!!!
And then we celebrated Benton's birthday with cake and ice cream!
Here we are all singing Happy Birthday to him! It was such a happy time.
Especially happy because my big brother Benton and my sweet Sister Auntie Rose were both SO sick on his real birthday a few weeks ago, and so we had to postpone his party. We are SO happy that they are all better now. Mommie said Jesus really worked a miracle to help them get well, and we are very very thankful.
So when we get to that special Thanksgiving day later in the fall, we will definitely add THAT blessing to the list of things to be thankful for!
So, that's all my latest news! How about YOU?
Do you decorate your house for autumn too? Do you celebrate birthdays and do special things with your family when you can? Mommie said that life is short and we need to celebrate whenever we can!
Okay, friends, I have to go now.
So bye bye and remember, Jesus Loves You, and I do too!
Love,
Lily Grace

Happy Birthday to your big brother!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Miss Cathy! He really is OLD, isn't he? LOL. He would probably pinch me for saying that again!
DeleteHope you have a happy day today. Bye bye, Love, Lily Grace
Lily Grace: Your brother Benton is NOT old. I am half-again his age and I am just beginning to feel old. I am thankful that he and Rose are over the COVID. I prayed for them. I only decorate for Christmas. I tried decorating for the other holidays but we live in a small house and I don't have the room to store the items. I have to have a couple of tests at the end of this week. I have seen something that alarms me. My one doctor told me what it could be and, yet, I wanted to have a test to find out for sure what this is. Please continue to pray for me. Peace and blessings.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Miss Quiet Spirit. You are so sweet to pray for my brother Benton and his sweet wife Auntie Rose. We are so happy they got better already. God is so good to hear and answer our prayers, and so Mommie and I will be praying for YOU too, that the tests will show that whatever it is, it isn't anything bad. May God give the Doctor good wisdom so he will know the answers and what to do. Praying for you now. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo
DeleteYour mommy is so right, life is short! I had to giggle, you calling Benton old...why, what would you say when I tell you I will be 55 in March. Now, that's old, grin.
ReplyDeleteYes, we celebrate birthdays. I'm not much of a celebrator of my birthday, but I do make a big deal out of others. Thank you Ms. Lily Grace for sharing this celebration. P.S. Yes, I decorate for fall. smiles
Oh Hi Miss Linda! Thank you for visiting! Mommie already showed me some of YOUR fall decorations, and I really loved them so much. I bet where you live you get to see lots of pretty autumn leaves, don't you? Mommie said she thought so. I'd love to see them sometime too. Oh my, you are only 5 years older than my brother! That means you could almost be my sister! Mommie said not quite. She would have only been a young teen ager when you were born, so she couldn't be your mother. But she could be your auntie or something like that! Anyway, I am glad we are all good friends, no matter how old we are! Thank you for coming by today. Bye bye for now. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxoxo
DeleteWhat a delightful share, Lily Grace! So many special 'firsts'! Now I can hardly wait to decorate for Fall; methinks another visit to the Dollar Tree is in order. It's still too warm to think about buying real pumpkins; last year I jumped the gun and paid the price when they began to leak atop my Navajo rug/runner. Oh well, thank God for dry cleaners! Mostly, THANK GOD for Benton and Rose's recovery!
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you, Miss Myra! Yes, there are so many special "firsts"!! I can't wait for our first real pumpkin. I will tell Mommie not to put it on the rug. She usually puts the real ones outside on the front porch or in the yard. We haven't seen any yet in the stores, so it is still too early I think. Yes, Mommie said the Dollar Tree was where she got those cute signs on the wall for fall this year. Just think, only $1.00 a piece!! Isn't that amazing? Mommie thinks so. Yes we are SO happy my big brother Benton and my sister Auntie Rose are now feeling so much better. We know Jesus healed them, and we are very very glad. Bye bye for now. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo
DeleteHappy Birthday to your big brother, looks like you had a very good time at his party. You also look so sweet sitting among you Momma's fall decor. I've missed since I've been away from my blog, I'll visit again real soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you Miss Mary!! We've missed YOU too! We are so happy you came back! I haven't had quite as many adventures as before. IT's been SO hot and Mommie doesn't feel like going outside a lot right now. She says in a few weeks we will have a lot more adventures because it will be a little cooler and more fun to go looking at things again. So yes, stay tuned! Hope you are safe from that storm Nicholaus. I have a cousin named Nicholaus, and he is very nice and kind. I don't think he would be mean to anyone. So I hope the storm won't come too close to you. Praying!!
DeleteBeautiful decorations! Lily Grace, you are such a special and very lucky girl!! I am glad you all got to celebrate Benton's birthday and had such a good time!! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Miss Terri! We did have such a good time celebrating my big brother Benton's birthday. I love birthday parties, don't you? And now I am ready for those bonfires and hay rides and other fun fall stuff. Mommie says we still have to wait for it to cool down a little before we can have a bonfire, but hopefully it won't be too long. She said we will something called s'mores, and I can't wait to find out what that is! Bye bye for now. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo
DeleteHow I love all of Mommie's decorations for fall, Miss Lily Grace, and I'm so glad you'll get to enjoy this very special season with your family for the first time. Fall is one of my favorite seasons of the year. And wish your big brother, Benton, a happy belated birthday from me. That's quite the party you all had! So glad everyone is finally well enough to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, little one!
Thank you Miss Martha Jane! It is so much fun to look at all the pretty fall decorations and think about what we might do in these next few months to celebrate fall, Halloween, and then Thanksgiving! It will be wonderful no matter what we do! And yes, my brother Benton had a good birthday and we are so happy he and my big sister Auntie Rose are now feeling SO much better. God is so good and we are very very grateful! Bye for now. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxoxo
DeleteIt is wonderful to see you, Lily Grace, with the family, and what a blessing indeed that now your big brother and Auntie have good natural immunity to the bad virus. What a beautiful, festive job your Mommie did on the fall decorations! I can't decide which item I love best -- they are all just perfect. Just wait until you see the owl liglhted up -- and then the real Jack O'lantern on Hallowe'en!
ReplyDeleteOh Thank you, Miss Holly!! Yes, we are SO happy my big brother and his wife Auntie Rose are all better now. God is so good, and we are so thankful. I am glad you like the decorations for fall! I am so excited about this new season I've never experienced before! Mommie said it is going to be fun fun fun! Yes, I will be sure to share pictures when we light up the owl and Jack O'lantern too. I can't wait to see them!! I hope you are doing well and that you have found a new job or will find one soon. We are praying for you! Love, Lily Grace xoxoxxxo

ReplyDeleteGood Morning to one of my Favorite Nieces, Lily Grace,
ReplyDeleteThis is your Auntie Pamela, the one that likes to make you clothes. I'm also an old fussy history teacher/ buff and just wanted to clear up a few things which many people are not aware and I don't mean to sound grouchy!
The people we usually call Pilgrims were actually Separatists not Puritans who came a few years later and settled Boston. The Puritans were much more strict or had many more rules than the Separatists who came over on the tiny MAYFLOWER.(I'm actually related to Gov. William Bradford!). The Puritans of Boston were the group who started the Witch Hunt/scare a bit later (ask Mommie) and the Puritans or Calvanists became the Congregationalists, now UCC!
OH MY, that was loooong and boring but once an ol history teacher forever an ol history teacher. I can tell you more in person if this was/is too confusing!
Glad you and Mommie are back to writing. Miss you all especially when this SNOWBIRD flies north for the summer.
Lots of love Auntie Pamela
Oh Good Morning, Auntie Pamela! I haven't talked to you in a LOOOOOONNNNNG time! I am SO happy to hear from you! And yes, Mommie said you are correct about the Pilgrims being Separatists instead of Puritans. She thinks she read that somewhere but it didn't sink in enough to explain it to me. So we are both thankful that you corrected this information. Mommie said it's been a long time since she studied history and she doesn't think they taught it exactly right back then either. Oh wow! You are related to Gov. William Bradford????? How did THAT happen? That must be a very interesting story! Thank you Auntie Pamela for writing. Maybe you need to come visit us sometime again!! Bye bye for now. Love you, Lily Grace xoxoxoxoxo
