Hello my friends! I am sorry I haven't written much lately. Mommie wasn't feeling real well this week, but she is much better now and is trying to get a lot of things done to get caught up. I've been trying to help her all I can, but there are some things that I can't do yet because I am still too little.
But Mommie found these really pretty "LILY FLOWERS" !!!! at the grocery store, and so she bought one to plant in the Secret Memorial Garden! I was SO excited, because that's MY name too!!
Isn't it beautiful? She planted it right beside our Easter Lily plant that has quit blooming for now, but Mommie said it will bloom again next spring, and hopefully this lily will too! It sure is gorgeous, isn't it? And it has lots of buds on it, so it should keep blooming for a little while longer.
Don't you like what that sign says about the Secret Garden? It is wonderful place to sit and swing and watch the birds and just relax in the shade. And little by little Mommie is planting more and more flowers and plants there to make it pretty.
Mommie said she already showed you these pretty cushions on her blog the other day, but since I was sitting on one of the stools, I wanted to show you this too, in case you missed it! My big Sister "Auntie Rose" recovered those seats for Mommie and also her sister "Auntie Sherrie" made the new covers for the pillows. They are all about "Tea Time", and that fits in really well in our kitchen, 'cause Mommie loves "Tea Time".
And I like to sit there and watch Mommie while she cooks food in the kitchen!!
See me waving? Hi Everyone!
I did help Mommie with something today that I've never done before. She said it was time to change the bed linens in the guest room to a more spring and summer theme. I was excited to get to help, because I've never been in that room before!
Mommie likes to use what she calls "Vintage" linens on the guest bed. I love the sheet with the pretty blue roses on it, don't you?
And the pillow cases have embroidered designs on them. Mommie said that my Daddy's grandmother, "Nanny Martin", did that embroidery many many years ago, and so that makes these very special indeed!
She doesn't have a matching pair, well, this one above has a matching one, but some of the lace is torn and it doesn't look as pretty, so she is using two different pillow cases. But they are both beautiful, don't you think?
And here is the bed with the quilt and pillow shams and some of Mommie's dolls on it.
I was excited, because I made some new friends!!
The little dark haired girl next to me is named "Sandra", and Mommie said that her Grandma Tedlie made "Sandra" for her when she was a very little girl! Mommie said that makes her very old, but she is still very young at heart.
The other pretty girl is named Cory. And here's Cory's Story! Ha Ha! That rhymes!
"I'm a poet and I didn't know it! But my feet sure show it! Longfellows!" (Mommie taught me that little rhyme. Isn't it funny?)
Isn't she sweet? Mommie said Cory was a gift to her many years ago from her brother in law.
I saw this sweet picture on the wall in our guest room. I asked Mommie who those cute girls were, walking with their pretty hats and holding hands? Mommie said they aren't anyone we know, just good little friends in a photograph, with a "poem" written about them underneath.
Here's a close up so you can read what it says:
I like that too, don't you? And I am happy I made some new friends today! How about you? Have you made any new friends lately? They sure are nice to have.
I asked Mommie if she could teach me to sew. She said maybe on her other sewing machine that is electric. This one has to use a foot peddle treadle thingy, and it is little bit more difficult to use. It is very old. I asked her where it came from.
She said it belonged to Daddy's "Nanny Martin". Her real name was Pearl Sarah Elizabeth Waters Martin. She is the lady with the white hair below on the left top. The lady below her was her mother! Her name was Grandma Waters, but her real name was Georgiann Jarrard Waters. And the couple on the right was my Daddy's Momma and Daddy. Their names were William George Steiner and Vivian Ruth Martin Steiner, also known as "Granddaddy and Nanny Steiner".
Below is a picture of "Nanny Martin", when she was a young lady. She is also the same one who made that quilt on the sewing machine above. She was very talented, and made lots of dresses and quilts for her family of four daughters, and even made one for each of her grandchildren. She also sold quilts to help pay for "Nanny Steiner" to go to beauty college!
Mommie said we should remember our Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers as well as our Mothers on Mother's Day.
I like these other two signs on the walls in the guest room:
"A friend loves at all times." Proverbs 17:17
And this one came from my Mommie's Mommy's house, which also originally came from Grandma Tedlie's house!
So, the guest room is all ready! I wonder who will be our next guest? I hope it will be someone who will like me too!!
Oh, I got this little cup and flower arrangement for Mommie at the flea market so she would have something for Mother's Day from me:
Happy Mother's Day to all my friends in blogland!
Bye bye for now,
Love,
Lily Grace
Hi Lily, I am thankful mommie is feeling better. The lilies in the garden are so pretty. The guest bed linens look so crisp and the embroidery detail is gorgeous. Rose and Sherrie did a nice job on tea time stool. Just perfect for your mommie to enjoy tea! I love seeing the other dollies and reading their story. Happy 💕 Mother’s Day Pam.
ReplyDeleteOh Thank you, Miss Laurel Wood! Your name sounds so pretty! It sounds like a place I'd love to walk through, the "Laurel Wood". Mommie said we don't have "laurel" flowers here, as they are mostly in the mountains, but it would be lovely to walk through such a place. Thank you for liking our pretty "lilies". I am happy they are named the same as me! Maybe we can call that part of the Secret Garden "Lily's Garden". I am glad you like our guest room. Mommie said she wished you could come and visit sometime and stay in that room! I like that room so much, I want it to be "Lily's Room". But I could move out when company comes! Thank you for visiting us today. I hope you have a beautiful day today too. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo
DeleteG'evening Lily Grace! I'm soooo happy to learn your mommie's feeling better! I love every little detail about your guest room ... seriously. I want to reach out and run my fingers across the old pillowcases, that dresser doily. Sweet photographs, those who've gone on before. Do you ever (like me) look at the faces and wonder what they were thinking at that very moment? Granddaddy and Nanny's make me think (that) there's was a happy day. Thank you so much for sharing these glimpses with us.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Miss Myra! Thank you for visiting here today! Yes, Mommie said to tell you thank you too. She is much better and hopes to go to church today. I am so glad you like our pretty guest room. Mommie said you are welcome to come run your fingers across those old pillowcases any time. She feels the same way about them. And yes, I love to see the old photographs of people who once lived and laughed and did so many wonderful things. That picture of Granddaddy and Nanny was taken not long after they were married. They were a very "handsome couple", Mommie said. I wish I could have known them...and especially Nanny Martin...(Nanny Steiner's mother). She made so many pretty things and Mommie has a lot of furniture and dishes and things that came from her home. So I kind of feel like I know her already. I hope you have a Happy Mother's Day today! Please come back and visit again soon. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxo
DeleteHi, Lily Grace! I'm so glad your Mommie is feeling so much better and that you could help her share so many beautiful photos with us here. I'm excited about your new lily plant in the secret garden. Yes, I saw those promising buds on it, and I'm sure it will bring delightful days ahead for you. Mother's Day is a special day to honor our mothers, grandmothers, and the other women in our lives that have nurtured and loved us, just like your Mommie loves you. Glad you found the perfect gift for her at the flea market.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, little one!
Oh Miss Martha Jane, We had such a lovely day on Mother's Day, even if the AC went out and it was very hot, but we still had a lot of fun. I know you saw the pictures by now. It really was a special day. I hope you had a special day too. I know your little granddaughters love you so much. I bet they can't wait for you to come visit them in their new home sometime soon. Be sure to tell them I said hi when you talk to them again. Bye bye for now. Love, Lily Grace
DeleteLily Grace, you think your mommy and you can come up and help us pack and decorate when the time comes for us to move? (grin). Such a lovely home you have, smiles.
ReplyDeleteDear Miss Linda, My Mommie said she could be an expert packer cause she's had LOTS of experience. She wishes she COULD come and help you. It would be so much fun if I could come too! I could help pack your toys. You do have some toys, don't you? Or dolls? Or other special "friends"? I could entertain them while you work. I hope you get the house of your dreams and your dream job too. Praying for you. Bye for now. Love, Lily Grace.
DeleteThanks for sharing all the wonderful photos, Lily!! I enjoyed seeing the pretty things in the guest room, too! You have a very special Mommie and I know you will be helping her have a very special day today!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Miss Terri! I am sorry to be so late responding. We've been busy...well Mommie's been busy, and I had to wait for her to use the computer. We did have a wonderful Mother's Day with the family here, even tho the AC went kerflooey and it was really really hot and humid. But it got fixed yesterday. Mommie and Daddy were SO happy it was just a thermostat and not the whole unit. We are nice and cool again now. Hope you have had a special weekend. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo
DeleteLily Grace: I am glad your mommie is feeling better. I trust you and Scott and Benton and Rose treated her to a nice Mother's Day. We had rain most of today. Our son decided not to come because of the heavy rains and the possibily of flooding of the highways he travels. He's coming next weekend. At church today, the pastor handed out a long stem carnation to every woman in the congregation. Only thing is, he ran out of them. I almost didn't get one. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteDear Quiet Spirit, I am so glad you are back up to writing again, and that you were able to go to church. I am sorry your son couldn't come for Mother's Day, but it's best he didn't try to drive through such bad weather. Hopefully you can have a really nice time together next weekend. Oh, how nice to get a pretty carnation at church. I hope no one was left out. That would be sad. But it was such a nice idea. I hope you have a wonderful week. Thank you for visiting me! Love, Lily Grace
Deletehi there LilyGrace, My Mommie says that bedroom is one of the prettiest rooms she's EVER SEEN!! She loves those sheets and I do too! My Mommie and Daddy have sheets like those on their big bed---but theirs is pink! Mommie loves "old fashioned" prints and I guess YOUR MOMMIE does too! I was busy this weekend helping my Mommie have a nice "Mothers Day"---it was my first and she explained it all to me. SO MANY HOLIDAYS and things for us to LEARN!! isn't there?? LOL. That little doll named Sandra Mommie says it looks almost identical to her beloved childhood ragdoll, does your Mommie know who made it or where it came from? Got to go now...........off on a short adventure.........but wanted to say hi to your my dear bestest friend!! You should take your day naps on that pretty bed among those beautiful blue flowers!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my dear friend Tracie! I've missed you so much! Thank you for writing to me. I thought you'd forgotten me. yes, I helped Mommie have a very nice Mother's Day. I gave her a mug with some flowers in it that says Happy Mother's Day. I helped her make the bed in the guest room and then I stayed to play in there with my new friends. "Sandra" was made by my Mommie's Grandma Tedlie. She made it for Mommie when Mommie was very little. So Mommie said it is VERY OLD! Today I played in the guest room again, and the teddy bears joined us, and I played my guitar and sang for them. We had a great time. I bet if you came to visit Mommie would let us have a slumber party in there! Wouldn't that be fun? You could bring AmyBelle too, and Tansy if she wants to hang around us younger girls. Mommie has a Barbie a lot like Tansy, so they could stay in Barbie's high rise apartment in the china closet and have a tea party. We'd have SO MUCH FUN! Please write again soon. I've missed you! Love, Lily Grace
