Matthew 18: 2-5
"2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3. and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me."
Mommie is feeling kind of "punky" this morning, so she said I should write the post for today 'cause she didn't feel up to it.
So I said I would share our pictures from this past weekend and try to tell about it instead. So, to start out, that picture above is me having my first bowl of ice cream! It's been pretty hot here in Florida where we live, and ice-cream seems to be the best way to cool down ever! Especially if it has some chocolate syrup, chopped walnuts, and whipped cream on top! Mommie said they call that an "Ice Cream Sundae", I don't understand why it is called a "Sundae". I think we ate this on Saturday, not Sunday! Well, because I like to learn new things, we looked up the history of ice cream sundaes on the computer, and we were really surprised to see so much information. HERE IS a LINK to the History of the Ice Cream Sundae. You might find it interesting too.
Speaking of Sunday, Mommie and Daddy went out to lunch after church on Sunday with their church friends. They went to a different place than where they usually go, and they had these two signs (along with some others) on the walls. Mommie said they say some really good things, so she wanted me to share them with you.
On Saturday morning, Mommie and Daddy took a long ride, about 30 miles away, to the town where they used to live before they moved here to this house. They wanted to go out to breakfast and then go to the flea market down there because it is a bigger one than the one we have here.
Anyway, they went to this little restaurant for breakfast, which used to be a favorite place to go when they lived there.
Here's a sign that was on the wall next to them:
While they were waiting for their food to be cooked, Daddy was uncomfortable in the booth seat he was sitting in because the cushion was worn out and too low, making him sit in a kind of a hole. So he was going to get up and move by Mommie, because she had chairs to sit in on her side of the table. Anyway, when he tried to get up he put his hand on the table to push himself up since he was so low, and the table legs were not level and the table tilted and their hot coffee and hot tea spilled and got his pants all wet. Thankfully it wasn't boiling hot, but hot enough and WET enough to make him very uncomfortable. He tried to dry off with paper towels and they moved to a different table to wait for their food, but it was taking way too long and he was miserable, so they paid for the coffee and tea and left the restaurant. They never did get to go to the flea market. Sadly they did not get to enjoy that little ride very much.
Now on to some pretty stuff: This big beautiful magnolia tree across the street from us is starting to really blossom:
Mommie took me over to see the magnolia blossoms and to smell them:
Look how big this flower is! It's as big as me!
They are so pretty, and they smell like a sweet lemon!
Mommie cut one and put it in a bowl of water on the table so we could enjoy it. However, the smell was so strong we ended up having to put it out on the back porch! It smelled good, but just too much of it!!
Well, Mommie said she never remembered seeing any flowers blossom on the Persimmon trees before the persimmons developed. And so she wanted to check the trees where we walk because they just got their spring leaves back real pretty, and she wanted to see if they had some kind of flower.
Well, when we got up close to the tree and looked under the leaves, there were these pretty little yellow flowers blooming and forming little tiny persimmons!
Mommie said it's been kind of lonely out on Still Waters Pond since the Canada Geese and their little goslings all went away. But she looked outside yesterday afternoon and saw something big in the Secret Memorial Garden.
It was that Sand Hill Crane family that we saw a couple of weeks ago out on the little marshy sand bar in the pond:
Here's the Daddy Crane:
Isn't he so "handsome" with his bright red head?
Mommie said it's time to close this post and go fix some lunch. I guess I am getting hungry thinking about ice cream sundaes and food at restaurants (or not!), and watching these Sand Hill Cranes eat. So I will close this post and say bye bye for now.
I hope you enjoyed visiting with me today. Mommie sends her love to all of you and she'll try to get around to visit you soon.
Here's a little verse in my devotional book that Auntie Opal gave me:
"He gives food to every living thing.
His faithful love endures forever."
Psalm 136:25 NLT
Bye Bye!
Love,
Lily Grace
Oh Lily, I'm so sorry to hear your mommie's not feeling well! You're such a big girl to pitch in here and help keep us updated!
ReplyDeleteHow incredible disappointing to hear how their breakfast was spoiled. I got goosebumps, imagining how awful it would have been had daddy been scalded by hot coffee. Hope the manager realizes what a potential liability he's got there.
You look so pretty next to the magnolia! I love them, too -- and now, might have to see if I can't swipe one from the park to put on in water out our sun porch. My mother used to do that with the gardenias; and ya. The aroma seems to penetrate every nook and cranny.
Stay sweet, okay? Sending big hugs!
Thank you Miss Myra. Mommie said she has something with three letters that starts with a "U", and she went to Dr. and is getting some medicine to help her feel better. She's drinking lots of water and cranberry juice too. Yes, she said she is going to write the restaurant a letter to tell them about that experience. Thankfully, Daddy wasn't hurt, except for discomfort and embarrassment, but it could have been much worse if mommie hadn't already put some ice cubes in her hot tea to cool it down, 'cause that is what splashed on daddy the most. Mommie said that gardenias do the same thing...they give her a headache, but they are so pretty to look at. I am trying to stay sweet. Maybe if I had some more ice cream I would be sweeter! What do you think? xoxoxoxoxo
DeleteThanks for being such a big girl, Lily Grace, and helping Mommie out with this post. I do hope she's feeling better!!! Sorry to hear about the disappointing restaurant experience. After seeing many a photo of the wonderful muffins and breakfasts Mommie makes, their misadventure must have seemed even worse than it could have been. And I'm so glad the Sand Hill crane family visited with you - I know you miss the geese, but at least, you can make some new wildlife friends. Thanks for catching us up on your news, little one, and save a sundae for me!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you, Miss Martha Jane. Mommie says the meds are helping her to feel better this morning, but she is still going to take it easy today. And yes, you are right! Mommie makes much better breakfasts than any restaurant! I hope the Crane family will come back today. They are fun to watch. I want to go back to the big lake and see if our geese family is still there, but Daddy said he doesn't want to because if they aren't there, we'll all be sad. So we will just think about them being happy and swimming around together in the big lake. I wonder if Mommie will let me have an ice cream sundae for breakfast? I am hungry! Ha Ha! Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo
DeleteI am glad the Sandhill Cranes have come back to entertain you and your mommie, now that the geese are gone. I really like watching the cranes. How awful that your mommie and daddy had their breakfast ruined by that rickety old table and booth! Hope mommie feels better now. You are so good to help her out with the blog today!! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Miss Terri! I hope the Crane family comes back too. They are funny to watch! Mommie said the meds the Dr. gave her are starting to help and she hopes she will be back to normal soon. She wants to know how your new job is doing, and she is praying for you because she remembers having a job similar to that. Hope you have a good day today. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo
DeleteIt is usually a nice treat to have a meal out but sometimes the experience is bad. I am terribly sorry about your daddy’s recent experience. You look so pretty with the big magnolia blossoms. Sending prayers for mommy to get well soon, xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Miss Laurel Wood! (I like that name! It sounds so pretty and calm). Thank you for your kind thoughts for Mommie and Daddy. Mommie said the meds the Dr. gave her are helping and she hopes to feel better soon. Yes, the magnolia blossoms are really huge! They are really pretty, but their smell was too strong to keep in the house! Mommie is kind of sensitive to strong fragrances and they give her a headache. But they were so pretty to look at! Hope you have a nice day today. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo
DeleteI am sorry to hear that Mommy and Daddy didn't have a good time at that little diner they used to like. That happens sometimes but maybe they will have an extra-good trip to the seashore again soon like you all did awhile back! I like those sandhill cranes! You could ride on one! Thank you for sharing the pretty magnolia and the little yellow belled persimmon flowers!
ReplyDeleteOh good morning Miss Holly! Thank you for your kind thoughts for Mommie and Daddy. I like your idea of another trip to the seashore again! I hope we can do that soon. I loved that! And wow! Wouldn't it be fun to ride on a Sand Hill Crane? But, what if he decided to take off and fly? They fly really really high up in the sky! They might take me back to Nebraska or South Dakota or wherever they came from! Oh my! What an adventure THAT would be!! Maybe I'd better just stay here on the ground and enjoy looking at them from my porch. But it does sound like fun. I am glad you liked the magnolia and persimmon flowers. One was really really big, and the other was really really tiny! but they both have a special purpose and God made them to be special just the way they are! Thank you for visiting, and I hope you have a happy day today!
DeleteLily Grace: I am sorry to hear about your daddy's mishap. Things like that really ruin an outing. I love the picture of the persimmon flowers. My husband's late I nsister used to make Persimmon Pudding. I tried once but it wasn't good. So, she always made it for us. I am also sorry to hear that your mommie is not feeling well. I know you will do your best to cheer her up. Peace and blessings on you and yours.
