Lily Grace Lets Her Light Shine Too!

Oh my dear friends! I had quite the adventure yesterday!  But, first, Mommie wants to apologize for not communicating yesterday because our WiFi was down all day! That meant no computer, no TV, and no blogging! So now she is way behind in visiting with you all and many other things so please forgive if she doesn't get around to visit right away!

Now, that being said, we want to tell you what we DID do yesterday that was so exciting for me!
I got to go to the UMW meeting with Mommie!  For those of you who do not know what the UMW  meeting is, it's the ladies group called "United Methodist Women" at our church.

Mommie was co-hosting with another lady, and so she had to be there early to take food and to set up for the luncheon part of the meeting.  She said since she was the co-hostess, she needed my help too, so I got to go along and help!!  Mommie was providing a fruit platter, and since it's also summertime, she was decorating with a summery fruity theme.

But before we could eat, we had a meeting, and Mommie introduced me to all the ladies. There I am sitting in the middle of the table.

I asked if I could lead them in a little song, and the ladies were all so nice and happy to join in with me.
We sang "This Little Light of Mine".  If you read Mommie's post the other day, you know she already had this song on her mind, and so she taught it to me...the way she remembers it from her childhood.

Here is a video of all of the nice UMW ladies joining in as we sang it and put up our fingers to be the little light we are shining while we sing.  I hope you can watch this video below. Mommie apologizes for it because half way through the song she laid down her phone and forgot it was still recording, so you see a blank screen for a while but we are still singing. She didn't record the whole song, but you will get the idea that we were enjoying singing it together:

Here I am, letting my little light shine 'til Jesus comes!

Then we started the meeting with a prayer and we all recited the "Purpose" of the United Methodist Women.

Mostly the ladies talked about the needs of different people and groups in the church and community that we can help out with. They take up an offering that helps with special projects that we support.
We pray for the ones who are not feeling well or who have other problems.  The ladies are very friendly and loving and care about each other. I liked that.

One lady also read to us the Meaning Behind the 13 Folds of the United States Flag, in honor of Flag Day, which is June 14th.  You may enjoy reading that too, as it has a lot of special meaning both in a spiritual sense as well as patriotic. For example, here is what it says for the 13th fold:

"The last fold, when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, “In God We Trust.”'

That reminded me that we have a folded flag in a special case that my big brother Benton made for it. This flag was given to my Daddy's mother "Nanny Steiner", at the funeral of her husband, "Granddaddy Steiner". That is a picture of him above when he was in the Army in WWII.  Thankfully he lived through the war and lived to be 78 years old before he died.  I never got to meet him or Nanny Steiner, but I know my Daddy and Mommie and everyone loved them both very much.

Then after our meeting we got to eat the good food that Mommie and the other hostess brought for our lunch.  Mommie says that all the ladies take turns at being the hostess so no one person has to do it all the time.
We had yummy little ham sandwiches and chips

Here some of the ladies are helping themselves to the fruit platters that Mommie brought:

Mommie didn't bake that beautiful carrot cake. The other hostess, "Miss Paula",  brought that and it was sure good! It is her own secret recipe and she doesn't share it with anyone!  But she likes to bring it to our special church dinners and UMW:
It is always a big hit, and the ladies beg her to bring it every time, but she said then it wouldn't be so special if they had it every time!

So that was our exciting adventure! It was so much fun to feel like a real "lady" attending a special meeting with all the other ladies! I hope I can go again sometime.

When we got home is when we found out that the internet was down, and so we couldn't watch anything on TV or do anything on the computer. So Mommie and Daddy decided to read a little book together.

It's called "Life in Elizabethan Days", and it is very old, but it's a little book Mommie found in a discard pile at a library years and years ago when she worked at a school library, and she brought it home because Daddy loves to read about old English history, especially during Queen Elizabeth I 's reign.

This book follows the fictional "Sir Walter Hollydean" and his family, and tells all about how they lived in the late 1500's-early 1600's. It's very interesting if you like to read historical stuff, and it has been a long time since they read it together so they thought yesterday would be a good time to try again.
Mommie reads it out loud and Daddy listens...and I listened too. It was kind of interesting. I am happy we don't have to live like they did, however.  They had to have lots and lots of servants to help them do everything!!!
Now that the internet is back up again I don't know if they will keep reading it or not. I just heard Daddy tell Mommie that he would like to spend a little time each day reading a couple of chapters...so I guess they will!
We also took a ride to check on Auntie Pamela's house because she goes up north for the summer. She has lots of blueberries ripening now and she said we could have them:

So we may have to go back over with a bucket in a few days and pick them! Yummy!

Okie dokie, my friends...that's about it. I hope you enjoyed this little post! Oh, the ladies of the UMW made me an honorary member!! Isn't that exciting?

Remember, be sure to let your light shine 'til Jesus comes!!!

  1. I very much enjoyed reading about the UMW meeting, Lily Grace! I am glad they made you a member, too. That shows they are remembering Jesus' words about being as a little child to receive Him and get to be with Him in heaven! Those are some wise ladies in the group. Your mommie did so well with those fruit platters because fruit platters are downright expensive but oh so delicious. Y'all did some good singing, too. Did you have room for the home-grown blueberries after your piece of the Secret Recipe Carrot Cake? I have a secret recipe carrot cake I am going to share on my blog! It's the best I ever had and one of my bosses long ago makes it!

    1. OH, Miss Holly, I must tell Mommie to watch for your secret recipe. I wonder if it is like our friend Miss Paula's carrot cake. She won't tell us everything she puts in it, but it is very good. It does have a cream cheese frosting, but she said that's no secret. Everyone puts cream cheese frosting on their carrot cakes. Yes, I ate some blueberries and strawberries and cantaloupe and watermelon and raspberries and blackberries and pineapple too! It was ALL so good!! I think I want some more for lunch today!! Yes, I enjoyed being with the ladies. They were very sweet and made me feel welcome. I might go again next time. We'll see. Have a happy day, Miss Holly. Love and kisses, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo

  2. Yippee for internet connectivity! We were without for a bit day before yesterday and it can feel darn unsettling. I suppose this is the time of year for storms that wreack havoc with our play things. *sigh*

What a wonderful gathering of dear, like-minded friends! (Good thing I wasn't there, because there wouldn't be enough carrot cake for anyone else. HA) Truly a delight to hear y'all singing. Now, I'm going to be humming that all the live-long day. That's the best kind of ear-worm to have, don't you think?

Okay, I'm off to read about the 13 folds now. Have a super day!

    1. Thank you, Miss Myra, for your kind words. Yes, we really depend on our internet for so many things and it does mess things up a bit when it goes down for a whole day. It would really be bad for people who depend on it for work or a business. But thankfully it is back up now and we can get caught up on things. Yes, I enjoyed being with the ladies very much. They were all very kind to me and made me feel really special. I'm glad you liked our little song. It was fun to sing with them. Hope you are having a good day. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxo

  4. Lily Grace: Our women's circle is named for two women who worked to keep the groups(our church was crreated by a merger of two sister churches) going, We call it "B and B Women's Circle". We adopt a ministry effort in town that works with women. We were unable to meet during the height of the pandemic. When we got to meet again, we couldn't have food brought in. The hostesses did lunchables. Due to my celiac sprue condition, I took my lunch a few times. A lady who lives near me and I are hostesses in November. We already have an idea what we will do for the meal and I am working on the lesson. As for the Wi-fi issue, it happens. I have a printer that refuses to print. Enjoy those blueberries. Peace and blessings to you and yours.

    1. I like that your circle is names for two special women. That's a nice way to remember them. Our church is small and we only have the one group instead of circles. We are meeting at the Parsonage now because no one lives in it and it is a nice big house to use for these special gatherings. The ladies' like that a lot better than meeting at the church or in homes. It's a nice time of fellowship and also for caring for one another. Hope you have a blessed and nice day. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxo

  5. What fun attending the ladies' meeting at church and being made an honorary member, Miss Lily Grace! Did it make you feel all grown up? Sorry to hear that your internet was down for a spell - Mr. Danny doesn't care for reading, so if our internet goes down, he's one restless man! I enjoy reading historical books, so would probably enjoy the one Mommie and Daddy are reading now. And did you know that carrot cake is one of my favorite desserts? Hope you had plenty at the luncheon.
    Blessings, little one!

    1. Thank you Miss Martha Jane. I am excited to be a "honorary member". I can be a good helper too. Yes, it did make me feel all grown up. That's why I wore my hair up instead of down in braids, so they wouldn't think I was just a little kid. My Daddy doesn't really like to read books either, but he loves history and he likes to learn about things like that. So it works out to have Mommie read out loud a couple of chapters at a time. You would have loved the carrot cake I am sure. It was very moist and delicious. Yes, Mommie and I shared a big piece. It was enough for me. Hope your Mother is feeling better. We've been praying for her. Bye bye for now. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo

  7. What a fun day you had and I thank you for sharing the video of the ladies singing. This Little Light of Mine was one of my very favorite songs to sing when I was a little girl sitting in a U.M. Sunday school. Do they still give the children those perfect attendance pins in Sunday school? I had at least 7 or 8 years of them and worked hard to be sure I got them. We traveled to visit family a lot, but I always went to church and if I brought one of the Pix Sunday School papers back to our home church I'd get credit for being there! Oh, what good memories you brought back today!

    1. Good Morning Miss Stacy! I am happy you remember that song from your childhood too! Mommie says she remembers singing it from way back then too. She also remembers getting pretty little pins for perfect attendance in Sunday School when she was a child.(and she still might have one or two pins somewhere). She says she doesn't think they still do that, at least not that she is aware of. Our little church is very small and we don't have many children, but we will be starting Children's Church back up soon. That is what they do for Sunday School nowadays because the kids don't seem to want to come earlier for Sunday School, because their parents don't bring them. Mommie said that is so sad and very different from when she was a little girl. Back then everyone went to Sunday School and then church. There was no such thing as "Children's Church" during church. There was a nursery for the babies, but everyone else sat in church and learned to listen to the sermon and sing the songs with the big people. She says times have changed, and not necessarily for the better, but whatever it takes to get children to church where they can learn about Jesus is a good thing. I hope you can take your grandchildren to Sunday School and church sometime so they can learn about Jesus too! I hope you have a good good day. Love, Lily Grace xoxoxoxo

  11. Oh my sweet bestest friend Lily Grace.....that looks like ALOT OF FUN!! I have not yet been to a big parties with so many nice ladies like this one! The food looks really good and Tansy hollers in from the other room--- "look at the CAKE....LOOK AT THE FROSTING!! YUM YUM!!" I'm so glad you got to go and I've been watching the pictures and waiting on the bluebirds with you--to see what all they do next!--so fun to watch! It's very hot here and we get lots of rain but Mommy says that is what makes all the vegetables and pretty flowers in our gardens GROW, so guess that is good for lots of rain to come splashing down. I haven't been on any adventures much lately either....so maybe our Mommies will take us out soon??? Love you my friend! Love, Tracie
